- A total of 99 ransomware groups were active during the first half of 2024.
- LockBit, RansomHub, and PLAY have emerged as the top ransomware gang for 2024, primarily targeting U.S. companies and institutions.
✅ East Asia Regional Trends
- In East Asia, ransomware attacks were most concentrated in Japan, with 19 incidents reported.
- South Korea experienced 8 ransomware attacks during the same period.
✅ Major Ransomware Gang Profiling
- Lockbit: The most active group on the dark web, Lockbit continues to utilize the RaaS (Ransomware as a Service) model.
- RansomHub: A newly emerged ransomware gang in 2024, which has already launched attacks on over 300 organizations.
- 8BASE: Appearing in early 2022, 8BASE is known for targeting global SMBs (Small and Midsize Businesses).
- Hunters: Emerging in Q3 2023, Hunters is believed to have close ties to the former 'Hive' ransomware gang, which was highly active on the dark web.
